Barcelona is at the top of the standings, but Hansi Flick demands more from his players
Gilabola.com – Barcelona has succeeded in displacing Real Madrid from the top of the standings, but coach Hansi Flick is demanding more from his players.
Barca wins over Alaves, Madrid even draws against Girona
After winning 3-1 over Deportivo Alaves, Barcelona rose to the top of the La Liga standings, two points ahead of their eternal rivals, Real Madrid.
This advantage was initially thought to be only temporary, because Los Blancos would then meet the red zone team, Girona, and could reclaim the top position through a win at Montilivi.
However, that didn’t happen, because Xabi Alonso’s team only got a draw – for the third time in a row in La Liga, after the match at Estadio Montilivi ended 1-1.
Thanks to these results, Barca remains at the top of the standings, one point ahead of the giant club from the Spanish capital.
Hansi Flick Asks for More
Revealed World of SportsEven though Barca are top of the league, Hansi Flick is demanding more from his stars and is not completely satisfied with what he has got from his team.
The German coach emphasized that after the 3-1 win over Alaves, he saw that his team’s control and intensity had now disappeared. Flick also wants more solidity with the return of a number of important players who have recovered from injury.
The gradual return of important Blaugrana players to the starting XI is a key element in improving the team’s game.
Then, Raphinha scored two goals against Alaves, and the return of Joan Garcia in goal for Barca gave a sense of security, as he showed at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Pedri provided half an hour of quality play after being sidelined for a month due to injury.
Then, Dani Olmo also scored two goals, alongside Lamine Yamal who added one goal and one assist, while continuing to provide a constant threat. All of this will of course help increase the team’s confidence in competing.
To strengthen this belief, Barcelona now needs to win one of the so-called ‘big matches’, because this season they have failed in all three matches recorded in the league and Champions League calendar, namely against PSG (lost 1-2), Real Madrid (lost 2-1) and Chelsea (lost 3-0).
Must Win Against Atletico
For this reason, the match against Atletico at Camp Nou this midweek is considered a strategic match.
Not only because Barca will face direct rivals who are three points behind them, but also because Atletico are coming in their best form after seven consecutive wins in official competitions.
Except in the Champions League – where Barcelona only won one point in six matches, Frenkie de Jong and his friends managed to avenge their defeat against Real Madrid by securing 12 points from the 12 points available in La Liga, which has brought them back to the top of the standings.
Their goal is to maintain this positive trend by securing victory over Atletico.
Our opinion
It’s natural that Hansi Flick demands more from his players, but the Blaugrana’s performance has also declined somewhat. Now, several star players who were previously absent are playing again, and Flick wants to see his team play more solidly and well in the next matches.
Apart from that, even though Barca are now at the top of the standings, they are only one point above Real Madrid. If they are careless and lose points, it is not impossible that Madrid will regain that position.
