Injured at Girona, Ter Stegen may miss playing for Germany at the World Cup

Barcelona’s veteran goalkeeper who is currently on loan at Girona, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, is threatened with being absent from playing for the German national team at the 2026 World Cup due to injury.

It was reported today that Ter Stegen suffered a serious thigh injury, after he just joined the Montilivi club about a week ago. Previously, the goalkeeper position geek it has been displaced in the order of play of Hansi Flick’s Barca squad.

One of the main reasons for Ter Stegen’s move to Girona was his desire to get regular playing minutes, so that he could still be the main goalkeeper for the German national team at the 2026 World Cup which will be held in three different countries.

Ter Stegen’s World Cup Dreams Are Threatened

However, now, journalists have revealed this German skyFlorian Plettenberg, Ter Stegen’s participation in the world football party is in danger of failing.

The reason is, the thigh injury suffered by the 33-year-old goalkeeper is reportedly quite serious, and could keep him out for a long time. Even, RAC1 reported that Ter Stegen could be absent for up to three to four months.

Such a scenario will certainly complicate Ter Stegen’s chances of getting into the Die Mannschaft squad and playing in the 2026 World Cup which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Ter Stegen is scheduled to continue his medical examination today, to truly assess the severity of his injury, after initial indications showed there was nothing positive about his condition.

Once this is complete, talks will be held between all parties, including Barcelona as the parent club, to discuss Ter Stegen’s next steps. He also has the opportunity to return to Camp Nou injured and will not be available to play.

This development is of course a hard blow for the former Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper, who spent almost the entire first half of this season in the treatment room after undergoing back surgery last summer.

Since joining Girona on loan in the second half of this season, Ter Stegen has played in two matches. Unfortunately, he was then injured again, so he might have to end his struggle in Montilivi sooner than he should.
