Romano speaks bluntly about Federico Chiesa at Liverpool and the issue of transferring to Serie A

Gilabola.com – Federico Chiesa is expected to remain in Liverpool in the January transfer market, although his name has again been widely linked with Napoli and Juventus due to his limited playing minutes at Anfield.

The Italian winger has not been the main choice since he was brought in from Juventus in the summer of 2024 with a transfer value of £12 million or around IDR 240 billion. However, Chiesa is starting to get more opportunities to play this season and has even developed into a favorite figure in the eyes of some Liverpool supporters.

Federico Chiesa Still Difficult at Liverpool

Even though his playing minutes have increased, Chiesa still appears more often as a back-up player. His status as Italy’s hero at Euro 2020 is not yet fully reflected in his role with the Reds. The Tutto Mercato Web report states that Juventus and Napoli are both monitoring the situation, opening up the opportunity to return to Serie A.

However, this speculation was slightly dampened by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. On his Italian language YouTube channel, Romano said that Liverpool currently has no intention of releasing Chiesa in January.

“Mohamed Salah has clearly gone to the Africa Cup of Nations. Chiesa also started the last match, so the situation is not certain,” said Romano. “However, people close to Chiesa predict that Liverpool will not want to let him go in January.”

The target of the Italian national team is a big consideration

Chiesa really wants to be included in the Italian squad next March, when the Gli Azzurri undergo the World Cup play-off round. If Italy qualifies, he hopes to appear in the tournament which will be held in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

The problem is, the lack of playing minutes can be a big obstacle. Under the tutelage of Arne Slot, Chiesa does not yet appear to be developing into a regular starter. Even when Salah was benched before leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations, Chiesa was not immediately chosen as his replacement.

This season, he has only started once in the Premier League or Champions League, although he has always been in the starting XI in two League Cup matches. From these total opportunities, Chiesa recorded two goals and three assists, a contribution that shows he still has an important role, even from the bench.

So coating but not yet satisfactory
