Previously bought super expensive, now discarded! Jadon Sancho’s career returns to zero point!
Gilabola.com – Mid -2020, Jadon Sancho became one of the hottest names in the transfer market. The young British winger was only 20 years old and was shining in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund with a score of 17 goals and 16 assists.
Many European top clubs chant it, and finally Sancho chose Manchester United – even though an agreement was only reached a year later with a dowry of £ 73 million, making it one of the club’s most expensive purchases.
However, the high hope immediately faded. Four years, two borrowing periods, and a series of controversies later, Chelsea chose to pay £ 5 million just not to impose it. What happened to the player who was once called “The Next Big Thing”?
Problems of discipline, conflict, and marginalized
Sancho’s career at Old Trafford began in the midst of the bad performance of the team which was still trained by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian manager was fired in November 2021, and although Sancho showed a glimpse of the potential, he only scored 5 goals and 3 assists in his first season.
The real problem began to stick out when Erik Ten Hag came in the summer of 2022. Sancho was known to have time -time discipline (timekeeping) since at Dortmund – which was tolerated because of his performance on the field. However, at Manchester United and under Ten Hag, it can no longer be tolerated.
The climax occurred in September 2023. Sancho was dropped from the squad for the match against Arsenal, and Ten Hag openly mentioned the performance of his training bad. Sancho immediately replied through the upload of social media, calling himself a scapegoat.
The feud developed into an internal conflict, where Sancho refused to apologize even though he was urged by a teammate and club management. As a result, he was frozen from the first team for a long time.
Back to Dortmund, but was rejected by Chelsea
In January 2024, Sancho was lent back to Dortmund. He called his return to his old club “Returning home”.
Although unexpected, he performed quite well with 3 goals and 3 assists in 21 matches, helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final – even though it lost to Real Madrid.
But financially, Dortmund was unable to make it permanent. So, Sancho returned to United and then loaned to Chelsea at the end of the 2024 summer exchange.
Interestingly, Chelsea included a strange clause: if they finished above 14th place in the standings, they must buy Sancho for £ 25 million, except paying £ 5 million to cancel it.
Chelsea closed the season with the UEFA Conference League trophy – where Sancho scored in the final – and 5 goals and 10 assists from 42 matches. However, the performance was considered insufficient to justify Sancho’s large salary which was reported to reach £ 300,000 per week.
Finally, Chelsea paid £ 5 million not to make Sancho, and the winger returned to Manchester United.
Careers who fall freely and limited choices
Jadon Sancho is now 25 years old, and his career option is no longer as luxurious five years ago. Internal conflict, decline in performance, and reputation as a difficult player to manage makes many clubs think twice.
Sancho still has talent, but without a change in attitude and environment that supports, he can be a classic example of talented players who fail to meet their potential. His future depends on whether he wants to adjust – or continue to blame others.
