Sudden Transfer! Bayern Munich officially locks transfer of 16 year old wonderkid

German giant club Bayern Munichreportedly has reached an agreement to recruit talented young talents belonging to RB Salzburg, Matteo Maric. The 16 year old young midfielder is said to have signed a contract and will officially join Bayern’s academy in the next new season.

In recent years, Bayern has seemed to slow down its recruitment activities for young players, especially after there was a change in leadership at their youth development center, Bayern Campus. But now, after the leadership structure has begun to stabilize, the Bavarian club is again actively strengthening its academy with potential talents from various countries.

According to a report by German Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Maric’s transfer agreement was fully completed in early March.

He said Bayern had reached a full agreement with the player, and an official contract had been signed. Maric will move from Salzburg to Munich and immediately join the player development program at Bayern Campus. Although detailed figures were not disclosed, Bayern is said to have to pay a compensation fee to Salzburg as part of the transfer.

Salzburg Fails to Retain Young Talent

RB Salzburg is actually trying to keep Maric by offering him a new contract. However, the player asked for a release clause in the contract. The request was not approved by the Austrian club, paving the way for Bayern to secure the young player’s signature.

This decision makes Maric ready to continue his career in Germany after the rapid development he has shown in recent years at Salzburg.

Fast Career Journey at Academy Level

At a very young age, Maric has had quite a varied journey at academy level. He studied at several Austrian youth clubs before finally joining Salzburg in 2024.

Before arriving at Salzburg, he played for the academies of clubs such as LASK and Blau-Weiß Linz.

Since joining Salzburg, Maric’s development has been very fast. In just about one year, he had jumped from the U-15 team to the U-16 team, then into the U-18 team.

Now, the next step in his career looks set to begin in Munich with one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

High Physical with Skilled Technique

One of the things that makes Maric stand out is his very tall stature for a player his age. Even though he has a large body, he is still able to demonstrate refined technique—an ability that smaller players usually possess.

In their teens, many tall players experience technical difficulties because their bodies are still adapting to rapid physical growth. The adjustment process between body development and technical control often causes a decrease in the quality of ball touch.

However, Maric was able to maintain his technical quality despite his towering physique.

If Maric’s development continues positively at Bayern Campus, it is not impossible that he will become one of the talents projected to break into Bayern Munich’s first team in the next few years.
