Casemiro is being considered for a new contract, the condition is that he must be willing to cut his salary
Gilabola.com – Ruben Amorim is reportedly considering extending Casemiro’s contract at Manchester United, but on the condition that the midfielder is willing to accept a pay cut.
Although Casemiro’s contract will end in June, the club has the option of extending it for one year. Amorim is said to be impressed with the Brazilian player’s contribution this season, who has once again appeared consistent in the team’s midfield.
Casemiro, who is now 33 years old, was linked with a big offer from a Saudi Arabian club in the transfer market last summer. However, he turned down the opportunity because he wanted to stay at Old Trafford and prove himself under Amorim.
Since the start of the season, Casemiro has succeeded in showing his quality as a key player again. He has scored three goals and recorded one assist in ten Premier League matches.
His performance also had a positive impact on the team’s performance, which is now starting to show stability after an inconsistent start to the season, with his exit from the field often being the trigger for United to concede goals.
Expensive Contracts and Club Considerations
Casemiro is still under contract with a value of around IDR 7.7 billion per week since being brought in from Real Madrid in 2022 at a cost of IDR 1.5 trillion. The high contract value has made several parties within the club consider not extending it after the season ends.
However, reports from talkSPORT stated that Amorim actually wanted Casemiro to remain part of the team for at least one additional season.
The Portuguese coach believes that Casemiro’s experience and leadership in the dressing room has had a big impact on Manchester United’s revival in recent weeks.
Even so, Amorim will only agree to a contract extension if Casemiro is willing to accept a lower salary than before. This is considered a realistic step for the club which is trying to maintain financial balance while preparing a long-term squad.
In an interview after the 4-2 win over Brighton last month, Amorim called Casemiro a player who set many examples for his teammates. He assessed that the player had struggled hard since the start of the season, until finally he was trusted to strengthen the Brazilian national team again.
Before the draw against Tottenham, Amorim said that Casemiro’s future was uncertain. He admitted that he still wanted to rely on the midfielder until the end of this season, but could not promise anything for next season.
The 39-year-old coach also said the same situation applies to Harry Maguire, whose contract is under similar conditions. According to him, the team’s main focus now is to finish the season well before making a final decision regarding the future of the senior players.
Meanwhile, Casemiro himself emphasized that he is still fully committed to Manchester United. He said that football is a major part of his life, although he also understands his family’s desire to have more time together.
The Brazilian player added that he prefers to focus on short-term targets, including maintaining his performance with the club. He realizes that the opportunity to appear in the next World Cup can only be realized if he continues to perform well at club level.
