Cotswolds what to see: the best city, mistakes and hidden gems

Want to know what to see in Cotswolds if you have more time than just one day travel? I have visited Cotswolds several times, both in the fall and spring.

After spending three nights exploring the most beautiful cities and some new hidden gems, I have collected this guide about where to go and how to avoid public tourism mistakes.

We drive from London and base ourselves in Cirencester. During our Cotswolds trip, we explored Bibury, Bourton-On-the-Water and Campden Chipping. I also included a video link to give you the right view to a beautiful view.

Let’s start with cities that you must prioritize.

Cotswolds what to see: 4 cities commensurate with your time

Cirencester

Cirencester, often called “Capital Cotswolds,” is a brilliant base for multi-day trips. This is one of the big cities in this region, with many restaurants, shops and pubs. Very beautiful and easy to experience many things just by walking around the city.

We were there on Friday and were lucky to catch the market. It is fun to walk and see the stalls of -kios that sell cheese, roasted foods, and other items. If you are looking for a center location that is not overwhelmed by tourists, Cirencester works well.

We live in Raja’s Head of Hotelwhich has a stylish room and beautiful ground floor. We have breakfast every morning there too. This is comfortable. But once if I can do it again, I will use the opportunity to enjoy various local cafes for breakfast every morning.

Bibury

Bibury is very beautiful. Arlington Row is one of the most photographed ways in the UK for good reasons. Which says, this is small. We were there for about 45 minutes and felt like we had seen everything. However, it made it a good stop, especially at the beginning of the day when the tour coach had not arrived.

Visit here is commensurate, but don’t plan for more than an hour unless you eat nearby.

Bourton-on-the-water

Bourton-on-the-water is beautiful, but busy. The Windrush River cuts right in the city, with a low bridge and many cafes and benches that line the river bank. You can really see this example in the video later.

Going early in the morning or more slowly during the day for the best experience. Leave time to walk outside the main village area to get a calmer view. We have a very good lunch at Willow, a full pub. We know that this PUB group has excellent food and highly recommend brands to people who plan London’s trip. This location is sent on food quality and atmosphere. We have a table facing the village. If you are in Bourton-On-the-Water, it’s good to order a table here, especially on a sunny day.

Chipping Campden

This is our last stop and is my favorite. Chipping Campden elegant, less crowded and full of characters. The main road is coated with honey, tea and pub housing shops that are comfortable. It feels more sophisticated than other cities and has a calmer energy.

The real hidden gem here is Covent Garden Academy of Flowers. I took one of their flower design courses many years ago in London and appeared at their Cotswolds locations while we were there. If you like floristry or just looking for something more unique, it’s good to order a course here, if it matches your schedule. This is an extraordinary gift idea for Mother’s Day or birthday too!

Errors of general cotswolds trips (and how to avoid it)

1. Choosing the wrong base

Many default travelers to the most can be installed. Cirencester gives us the best combination of charm, comfort, and choice. This is a good balance of the nuances of ‘villages’ with city allowances, such as parking, restaurants and shopping.

2. Trying to see everything in one day

This is the biggest mistake. Although it is possible to travel Cotswolds Day from London, you will spend more time for a coach than looking at cities. Which says, sometimes traveling a day is everything you can manage if you visit London with a tight schedule.

If that’s the problem, here are some tour advices.

3. Rely on public transportation

Trains and buses do not connect Cotswolds with a logical or efficient way. You will need a car. That’s just the best way to see this region. Parking can be managed in every city that we visit, but check local restrictions or signs.

I have heard from people who visited cities during the peak season later they had to walk 20 minutes to the city because they were very busy. They found all the parking locations close to their arrival at their arrival. Consider this when planning your trip.

4. Do not order food or experience first

Small cities means limited capacity. Restaurants and popular experiences ordered, especially on weekends or during school holidays. Make an early reservation for lunch, flower workshops, and afternoon tea if you are aiming for something specific. And note that if you live in London like me, a place to eat close before in Cotswolds.

Hidden gems in cotswolds

You might say that all cotswolds are filled with “hidden gems”. While they have been splashed to all social media, they are not so secret. Below are some that you don’t hear much.

Covent Garden Academy of Flowers

Located in this Campden chipping is a calm and elegant flower school in the middle of Cotswolds.

Victoria Christmas Shop

Although not difficult to find, this shop must be visited for those who love Christmas. Every time we are on vacation, I like to take Christmas ornaments to remember our trip. If you like any Victoria and Christmas, this is a shop that you don’t want to leave!

Cirencester Friday Charter Market

This is not striking, but very local. It has delicious food stalls and relaxed vibrations. This was held at the market on Friday starting at 9 am to 3 pm.

Planning Cotswolds 3 Nights

The following is a simple plan to follow, based on what works for us:

Day 1: Arriving at Cirencester
Check -in, explore shops and downtown. Dinner in one of many restaurants or pubs. We chose Fleece and Bear Inn and had dinner at our hotel one night.

Day 2: Bibury + Bourton-On-The-Water
Drive early to Bibury, then go to Bourton before it is crowded. Enjoy lunch at Willow.

Day 3: Chipping Campden
Leave mid-morning, explore, shop, and take a walk. Visit the Flower Academy. Return to Cirencester for dinner.
