Danny Welbeck Reveals the Weaknesses of Thomas Tuchel’s Selected England National Team Squad
His absence Danny Welbeck from the newest squad Thomas Tuchel For England national team raises big question marks, especially after his impressive performance at club level.
The German coach called a total of 35 players for the international agenda in March. This figure is the same as Welbeck’s current age, who actually has the status of England’s top goalscorer Premier League this season.
Surprising results
Last Friday’s squad announcement surprised many, not only because of the huge number of players, but also because Welbeck’s name was not included.
Initially, Tuchel’s decision looked confusing. However, he explained that his plan was to rest the 11 core players who already had “trust” in him during the first test match against Uruguay, before returning to play in preparation for facing Japan.
In that core group of players is captain Harry Kane, who has been England’s main striker for more than a decade and has been in sharp form for Bayern Munich this season.
The Difficult Role of Upholstery
Be a cover Harry Kane not an easy task. The lack of opportunities to play in this position is even said to be one of the factors that pushed Jamie Vardy to retire from the national team in 2018 at the age of 31.
Even so, Welbeck has not given up. The 35-year-old last represented England in September 2018, but remains determined to return.
In an interview with TNT Sports, he emphasized that he will continue to try every day to get a place in the World Cup squad.
Evidence in the Field
Shortly after the squad announcement, Welbeck gave his best response on the pitch. On Saturday night, Welbeck scored two goals for Brighton & Hove Albion against Liverpool.
Welbeck’s two goals brought his total goals in the Premier League this season to 12 goals.
The performance directly highlighted the flaws in Tuchel’s approach. If the purpose of calling up a big squad is to give potential candidates a chance at the World Cup, then it makes no sense that England’s top scorer in the league should be denied the opportunity.
Questionable Decisions
Not being called up by Welbeck feels like a form of injustice. This may be the reason behind his goal celebration which shows a gesture of covering his ears, as if responding to criticism or a decision that is detrimental to him.
But more importantly, time no longer seems to be on his side. The World Cup starts in less than three months. If until now he has not been able to convince Tuchel, then his chances are getting smaller.
This situation is similar to that experienced by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was also not selected for no really clear reason.
Tuchel called the decision to select players such as Jarrell Quansah, Djed Spence and Tino Livramento a “sporting decision”, although this was questionable given Alexander-Arnold’s experience at club and international level.
Lost Opportunities
Most likely the same reasons apply to Welbeck. He may not be considered to fit the profile of player that Tuchel wants as a back-up to Kane, especially in situations when the main striker needs support or experiences a decline in form as happened at Euro 2024 when Ollie Watkins emerged as a hero in the semifinals.
However, Welbeck’s recent performance shows otherwise. He is not only sharp in scoring goals, but also shows excellent teamwork and understanding of space.
This strengthens the opinion that England’s big squad is still not broad enough to provide opportunities.
Painful Reality
Supposedly, Tuchel’s experiment could be expanded by giving Welbeck a direct opportunity to prove his abilities.
But in reality, he had to spend this international period without a chance, while other players got a platform to show their quality.
And most painfully, there is no truly satisfying explanation for the absence of his name.
PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
