England Legend thinks Bellingham and Tuchel’s tension is nothing to worry about

Gilabola.com – Former England international, John Barnes, gives his views on Jude Bellingham’s reaction when he was taken off by Thomas Tuchel in the win over Albania.

He considered the issue of tension between the two to be exaggerated, called Tuchel’s decision a natural step, and emphasized that the young player’s reaction was not a form of defiance. He also believes that Tuchel is building authority and making firm decisions without prioritizing big names.

Bellingham returned to the England squad for the latest international agenda after missing several calls. In that match, he appeared until he was replaced after England secured a 2-0 lead.

The change was made at the last minute when Tuchel chose to bring on Morgan Rogers. Bellingham’s expression when he left the field then invited widespread discussion.

Tuchel said he would review the reaction, although he rejected suggestions there was a personal dispute. The coach was previously mentioned by several reports as not always agreeing with Bellingham.

Barnes sees the situation as commonplace in team dynamics. He considered that any player would not be happy when he was taken off, and Bellingham’s reaction did not show an excessive attitude.

According to him, public discussion regarding Bellingham’s behavior does not match what he saw. He considered that the news had developed too far from the actual context.

Barnes also believes that Tuchel’s decision to make substitutions was part of the coach’s authority. He said coaches have the right to make important decisions, even if they involve star players.

He added that the system adopted by Tuchel now no longer just recognizes core or reserve players, but rather the role of ‘finisher’ which has equal importance.

In Barnes’ eyes, Bellingham is a big player, but that position doesn’t make him an exception when it comes to strategic decisions. He thinks Tuchel wants to emphasize that the team works based on tactical needs, not a hierarchy of big names.

Barnes even believes that Tuchel is braver in making difficult decisions than previous coaches. He gave an example of a situation where the substitution of a player such as Bellingham or Harry Kane could trigger harsh criticism if the match result did not meet expectations.

However, Barnes said that this kind of thing had become a professional risk. According to him, the coach’s decision will always be accepted as long as the team wins, but will be debated when the results are bad.

Tuchel himself has emphasized that player behavior is an important aspect of his team. He is said to prioritize squad harmony and balance rather than simply including all the star players.

The coach has also said previously that playing Bellingham, Harry Kane and Phil Foden together could disrupt the balance of the game. Therefore, he adjusts the composition of players based on the needs of the match.

When Bellingham was withdrawn, he had also received a yellow card. Tuchel has reminded the players to avoid unnecessary cards, especially after Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly had to miss the first two World Cup matches due to a previous red card.
