Former Red Devils Failed Striker Becomes Liverpool’s Surprise Transfer Target to Replace Isak

A surprise name appeared on Liverpool’s striker transfer radar when former Manchester United flop Memphis Depay is now a transfer target as a solution to Alexander Isak’s injury.

Communists broke the Premier League transfer record when they brought Isak from Newcastle United in a transfer deal reaching IDR 2.9 trillion during the last summer transfer window.

There are high expectations on his shoulders after he finished as the second top scorer in the Premier League last season with 23 goals, only losing to Mohamed Salah who finished top with 29 goals.

Unfortunately, fitness problems and a lack of adaptation due to joining late meant his transition at Anfield was hampered, with him only scoring two goals in the Premier League this season.

The problem increased when he now had a fibula fracture injury which forced him to be sidelined for a long time, leaving Arne Slot to only be able to rely on Hugo Ekitike on the front lines.

Isak’s injury occurred after a collision with Micky van de Ven just as he was scoring a goal against Tottenham. This injury means Liverpool must prepare to lose the IDR 2.8 trillion striker for a long time.

Depay is a cheap solution

In conditions like these, Liverpool have reportedly started exploring the option of bringing in an additional striker in the January transfer market, and the latest report brings up a surprise name.

Reports suggest that the Merseyside giants are now considering signing former Manchester United and Barcelona striker Memphis Depay, who currently plays for Corinthians.

The Dutch bomber could be a cheap option for Liverpool because the Brazilian club is ready to sell Depay for only IDR 196 billion, and his fellow Dutch connection with Arne Slot could help make his adaptation easier.

Depay has long experience with PSV, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. His decision to move to Corinthians in 2024 surprised many people.

Since then, he has scored 19 goals for the Brazilian giants, making him an attractive option for Liverpool who see him as a suitable player as a back-up and partner for Ekitike during Isak’s absence.

Cotinthians themselves actually do not plan to sell Memphis Depay, who they consider still has an important role for the team. But the Brazilian club is ready to hear offers of around IDR 197 billion for their mainstay striker.
