Indonesia Wins 3-1 Over Myanmar, But Still Eliminated from the 2025 SEA Games

Gilabola.com – The Indonesian U22 national team closed their journey at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand with a 3-1 win over Myanmar, but this result was still unable to bring Garuda Muda to advance to the semifinals. The final Group C match which took place at The 700th Anniversary of Chiang Mai Stadium, Friday (12/12/2025), became a life-and-death duel which ultimately ended in disappointment even though Indonesia picked up three points.

Indonesia Wins, but Not Enough to Qualify

Garuda Muda needs a big win to pursue the best runner-up position, but its goal productivity is still less than Malaysia’s even though they both collected identical points. This 3-1 victory was not able to meet the required goal difference.

On the field, Indonesia appeared dominant from the early minutes, realizing the urgency of chasing a quick goal. Rayhan Hannan opened the first opportunity in the fourth minute, followed by continuous pressure throughout the first half. However, Myanmar’s tight back line caused Indonesia’s attacks to stall.

It was Myanmar who stole the lead first in the 29th minute. Min Maw Oo grabbed the ball from outside the penalty box and fired a hard shot which nestled in the right corner of Daffa Fasya’s goal. This situation meant that Indonesia had to score four goals to maintain hopes of reaching the semifinals.

Toni Firmansyah was the savior at the end of the first half (45′). Taking advantage of goalkeeper Hein Htet Soe’s mistake, Toni hit the ball to equalize the score at 1-1 before halftime.

Second Half More Intense, Indonesia Chasing Time

Entering the second half, Indonesia was again in control of the game. However, Myanmar appeared braver and made the Indonesian players’ hearts beat faster. In the 56th minute, Zaw Win Thein ran free and was left facing Daffa Fasya, but the captain’s shot went over.

Indonesia continues to press, but the final solution is still a problem. Ivar Jenner’s speculative shot in the 71st minute went well off target, showing the frustration of the players running out of time.

Another golden opportunity came when Myanmar almost scored an own goal after the ball hit the crossbar. Not long after, Kadek Arel’s header (79′) forced the Myanmar goalkeeper to make a brilliant save.

Indonesia’s pressure finally paid off in the 89th minute. Jens Raven, who came on as a back-up striker, grabbed Muhammad Ferrari’s pass from close range to put Indonesia 2-1 up.

In injury time, Jens Raven put his name on the scoreboard again (90+5′), completing a brace that closed the match with a score of 3-1.

Still Eliminated from the 2025 SEA Games

Even though they won, Indonesia still had to lift its suitcase from Thailand. A goal difference that is worse than Malaysia means that Garuda Muda’s hopes are stalled in the group phase. This result is a reflection that slow starts and ineffective finishing in previous matches contributed to Indonesia’s failure to reach the semifinals.

Our View

This victory shows the fighting spirit of young Indonesian players until the last minute. However, failure to qualify shows that performance should not fluctuate in short tournaments like the SEA Games. The dominance of the game can be seen, but finishing and focusing on defense are homework that must be addressed immediately ahead of the next tournament.
