Jose Mourinho is finished! Real Madrid is not thinking about recruiting him again

Real Madrid is not thinking about bringing back its former coach, Jose Mourinho, next season.

Real Madrid, coached by coach Alvaro Arbeloa, managed to win 1-0 at home to Benfica – the club currently managed by Mourinho, Wednesday morning WIB 18 February 2026.

However, this match was a tough test for Arbeloa because the Los Blancos squad had to face tough resistance from Benfica in the first leg of the Champions League knockout play-off round.

Arbeloa did not make a good impression when the two teams last met in the Champions League league phase at the end of January.

At that time, Mourinho successfully led Benfica to a 4-2 win at the Estadio da Luz, Lisbon, so they managed to secure a place in the last 24. This match was the last meeting between the two teams before the playoffs this morning.

After Benfica’s 4-2 win over Madrid at the start of this year, speculation emerged that Madrid might bring Mourinho back to the Bernabeu ahead of next season.

This then became relevant for El Real, especially after Arbeloa’s future as coach at the Bernabeu became uncertain.

Real Madrid Rejects Mourinho’s Return

Now, Madrid has again denied the possibility of re-signing Mourinho as their next head coach next season.

However, this is not something that Madrid is thinking about or considering at the moment. After moving from managing big clubs like Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea to now the 63 year old coach coaching teams like Fenerbahce and AS Roma, the decline in Mourinho’s performance from the sidelines is now quite visible.

Even though Mourinho still has an extraordinary track record, it seems that Madrid prefers to find a coach who can take them forward rather than just bringing in a coach who is only a temporary solution.
