Manchester United’s next four matches will determine their season

Gilabola.com – Ruben Amorim faces a crucial period at Manchester United with four crucial games that could determine the direction of the season.

The 2-0 win over Sunderland before the international break eased the pressure a bit, but the next schedule presents a tough test starting with a visit to Liverpool headquarters.

The positive result against Sunderland was one of the most solid performances under his leadership. However, United have only recorded ten wins from 34 Premier League matches since Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag, showing how slow the coach’s adaptation process is.

Jim Ratcliffe once stated that Amorim needed up to three years to form a team according to his vision. He even touched on the long process that Sir Alex Ferguson went through at the start of his tenure in 1986.

However, Amorim is aware that this support will not mean much if the position in the standings does not improve. After finishing 15th last season, management and supporters want real improvement this season.

Currently United is in 10th position, having only closed the competition week twice in the top half of the standings. Despite appearing more stable, they have not been able to achieve two consecutive wins in the league since Amorim arrived.

The next test comes from Liverpool at Anfield, a stadium that has not been friendly to United since their last victory in 2016. After that, they will host Brighton, visit Nottingham Forest, and face Tottenham in London.

Amorim views these four matches as an opportunity to improve his position and prove consistency. In the dressing room and board meeting room, the target is clear: to finish in the European zone as proof of real progress.

Rehashing Old Wounds or Opening New Hope?

In the last two seasons, three of the four opponents have been the source of embarrassing defeats. Brighton have won three times in a row at Old Trafford, while Nottingham Forest and Tottenham repeated their dominance over United in the previous season.

The first match at Anfield on October 19 brought mixed memories. Last January, United drew 2-2 after Lisandro Martinez put them ahead, but Amad Diallo had to save the result in stoppage time.

Amorim believes that the team performs well when they are focused and fight until the end, but he emphasized the importance of consistent spirit in every match.

A few days later, United will face Brighton at Old Trafford. Last season, this match ended badly with a 1-3 defeat. At that time, Amorim admitted that the team’s performance was very disappointing and called the result one of the lowest points in the club’s history.

His harsh comments reflected the Portuguese coach’s frustration with his team’s inconsistent performance. Meanwhile one supporter believes United’s problems are much deeper than just individual mistakes on the pitch.

The next match against Nottingham Forest was no less painful. United lost at the City Ground with their former player, Anthony Elanga, scoring the sole goal. Amorim criticized his team’s negligence in defending against dead ball situations which resulted in the opponent’s goal.

The defeat was followed by other negative results against Tottenham. In the last meeting, James Maddison scored the only goal that gave Spurs their third win over United in one season. Amorim concluded that efficiency was the main differentiator in this match.

Now, the next four matches will be a benchmark for whether Manchester United under Amorim is really moving in a better direction or is still stuck in the same old pattern. This performance in October and November could determine the direction of the coach’s future at Old Trafford.
