Portugal’s Young Star Forces to Leave Borussia Dortmund for the World Cup
Gilabola.com – Borussia Dortmund starlet Fabio Silva hopes to leave Signal Iduna Park in January 2026 – just months after he joined the Bundesliga club from Premier League side Wolves.
Rarely played by Niko Kovac
He was brought in by Dortmund last summer, but surprisingly was considering leaving in the winter transfer market after struggling to get playing time under Niko Kovac.
The Portugal international is reportedly frustrated at being a ‘less important’ player in Die Borussen’s squad, and is worried he will miss the 2026 World Cup.
So far, the former Wolves striker has only played around 100 minutes in the Bundesliga, and this has sparked rumors that he wants to leave soon.
Silva’s transfer from Wolves to Borussia Dortmund should be a shining moment for the 23 year old player, because his career has finally stabilized after he was loaned out by Wolves to four different clubs.
The Bundesliga giant club paid more than 20 million Euros for the former Porto player, and gave him a long-term contract until 2030. Initially, this seemed to indicate Dortmund’s confidence in the player’s great potential.
Just get 100 minutes of playing
However, following Silva’s injury during a medical and his slow integration into Kovac’s plans, the initial signs were less than encouraging.
In total, Silva has only played in nine matches, but rarely made any significant appearances, so he has only played around 100 minutes so far this season.
His brief appearances often included late substitutions, including appearing for just two minutes in the 3-3 draw against Stuttgart, which reportedly left Silva very disappointed.
Ambition to Defend Portugal in the 2026 World Cup
Considering that Wolves are experiencing difficulties in their front line at the moment, it is even said that Silva could have received more playing minutes if he had remained with the Premier League club.
Fabio Silva’s ambition to enter the Portugal national team squad for next year’s World Cup makes him even more worried because of the lack of playing opportunities he gets at Dortmund.
Revealed german sky, Silva is already considering ‘leaving quickly’ in January, even though he will only join Dortmund at the end of August 2025.
