Real Madrid Madrid Ready to Buy The Lilywhites’ Best Defender, Micky van de Ven

Gilabola.com – Real Madrid are starting to rework their transfer plans ahead of the January window after another injury crisis hit the back line. Even though they brought in several new defenders last summer, the condition of the squad made Los Blancos management consider taking quick steps in the middle of the season.

The situation became even more complicated after Éder Militão suffered a torn hamstring injury which forced him to be sidelined for up to four months. The absence of the Brazilian defender—who is considered Madrid’s most consistent defender at the moment—creates a big hole in the heart of Santiago Bernabéu’s defense.

Two Names from the Premier League Enter the Radar

A report from Spanish media E-Noticies states that Real Madrid has narrowed down the list of targets for central defenders to two names who are both active in the Premier League. The first option is Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, who reportedly could be brought in for around IDR 510 billion.

Guehi is said to be liked by the coaching staff because of his ability to read the game and distribute the ball from behind. However, this interest was not fully supported by the club’s decision makers, who considered that there were other candidates with profiles that better suited the team’s current needs.

Micky van de Ven is the main choice

The name currently in the top position is Micky van de Ven, Tottenham Hotspur’s Dutch international defender. Madrid is said to be ready to redeem it with funds of around IDR 850 billion if the opportunity opens up.

Van de Ven has stood out throughout the season and is even considered Spurs’ best player so far. Interestingly, even though he plays as a central defender, he is Tottenham’s second top scorer in all competitions with a collection of six goals—only one goal behind Richarlison.

E-Noticies revealed that Van de Ven’s speed, aggressiveness and one-on-one duel strength were considered ideal to fill the void left by Militão. Apart from that, his character and composure in high-pressure situations is considered suitable for the demands of playing at Real Madrid.

The media also said that Tottenham could potentially open the door to negotiations if the player himself pushed for a departure from North London.

Tottenham Will Not Let Go Easily

Even though Madrid’s interest is confirmed, the transfer process will certainly not be simple. Transfer journalist Dean Jones revealed that Tottenham have absolutely no intention of releasing Van de Ven in the near future.

According to Jones, Van de Ven’s situation is different from other Madrid targets such as Ibrahima Konaté, Dayot Upamecano, or Marc Guehi whose contracts are closer to the end. Van de Ven still has more than three years of service, and Spurs hope to tie him down to a new, longer contract.

Tottenham consider Van de Ven to be a crucial asset, not only because of his defensive qualities, but also his leadership and goal contribution, which is rare for a central defender. Even if Madrid is really serious, the price to be paid is believed to be much higher than the Spanish media claims.

Our View

Real Madrid’s interest in Micky van de Ven shows a change in approach from simply hunting for market opportunities towards the squad’s immediate needs. However, with a long contract and vital role at Tottenham, this transfer has more potential to be a long saga than a quick deal in January. For Spurs, retaining Van de Ven could be as important as bringing in new players.
