Ruben Amorim’s farewell tears revealed, a year after moving to Manchester United

Gilabola.com – Ruben Amorim’s farewell speech to the Sporting CP players was finally revealed through the club’s documentary footage. That moment occurred before he officially joined Manchester United almost a year ago.

In an atmosphere full of emotion, the Portuguese coach expressed his pride and gratitude to the players who had led him to win two Primeira Liga titles.

The speech was recorded after the 4–2 win over Braga, the match that closed his spell with Sporting. The victory was achieved dramatically after his team trailed 1–2 until the last ten minutes.

Previously, Amorim also recorded a big win over Estela and a historic result when they beat Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League.

Amorim reportedly said that he does not like separation and thinks his team will still win the league even without him. He also considered the team’s performance in the second half against Braga as one of the best moments in his coaching career.

The 40 year old coach also asked senior players such as Pote and Esgaio to help their young colleagues. He emphasized that the struggle will become increasingly difficult, but believes the team’s character is strong enough to overcome it.

In his speech, Amorim seemed to be holding back tears. He said he would always support the players from afar and considered them the best group he had ever coached. His remarks were greeted with long applause from the dressing room.

From Glory at Sporting to Pressure at Old Trafford

After the farewell speech, Amorim was officially announced as Manchester United coach, replacing Erik ten Hag who was fired. He left Sporting after three additional matches that showed his team’s outstanding performance.

However, Amorim’s journey in England was not as beautiful as his golden age in Portugal. His debut season ended with a mid-table Premier League finish and defeat in the Europa League final. Even so, United management still gave him the confidence to continue the long-term project.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s minority owner, reportedly still fully supports Amorim. The support comes after the team recorded a 2–0 win over Sunderland before the international break, a result that kept Arsenal within six points of Arsenal at the top of the table.

However, the pressure on Amorim remains great. He is still trying to build an emotional bond with the United squad, something that used to be his strength at Sporting. Several observers said that his tactical approach was starting to be understood by players, but consistency was still the main problem.

Amorim will be looking to achieve back-to-back wins in the league for the first time since coming to England. That challenge comes this weekend, when Manchester United travel to Liverpool’s headquarters in a heated match that could determine the direction of their season.
