Three Players Miss Training, Manchester United Faces Complicated Situation Ahead of Facing The Cherries
Gilabola.com – Manchester United is facing an unideal situation ahead of the match against Bournemouth after Matthijs de Ligt, Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire were not seen in the latest training session, while the condition of the three has not been confirmed and Ruben Amorim has prepared the option of academy players in case the three are not ready to play.
The training session at Carrington on Thursday morning went ahead without the three important players present. De Ligt, Sesko and Maguire were absent from team activities, although Amorim will provide an official explanation at the pre-match press conference.
De Ligt previously experienced problems that kept him out of action against West Ham and Wolves. At practice this Thursday, he did not practice, but remained at Carrington to carry out media duties outside the field.
Amorim once said that the certainty of De Ligt’s recovery must be monitored daily. He revealed that initial estimates often changed so he did not want to mention the exact time of the defender’s return.
Benjamin Sesko’s situation is a little different. His recovery from a knee injury is said to be going quite well, so the possibility of appearing against Bournemouth is still open.
Bournemouth has been targeted as a realistic time for Sesko’s return since he suffered an injury against Tottenham on November 8. Amorim explained on November 21 that the striker was expected to be out for several weeks, but his injury was not serious.
Maguire is also on the injury list after suffering a hamstring problem against Tottenham. Amorim last week confirmed that the central defender was still recovering and was not ready to return.
Academy Player Roles
The absence of these three senior players makes room for young Manchester United talent. Shea Lacey, Jack Fletcher and Tyler Fredricson took part in practice to fill in the gaps.
Lacey has even been included in the Premier League match squad in the last four matches. The presence of these academy players is not just an emergency, but also part of Amorim’s plan.
The Portuguese coach had said that young players would be an important part when Manchester United lost Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui to appear in the Africa Cup of Nations next week.
Amorim emphasized that last season’s journey provided valuable experience in dealing with squad limitations. He considered that the difficult conditions made the team better prepared to face similar times this season.
He also thinks Fletcher, Lacey and several other young players have the potential to step up to the next level if they get the opportunity. Amorim views the role of academy players as a strong message that the club’s future must include them.
Meanwhile, Shea Lacey’s development is receiving special attention. Amorim said that Lacey had had fitness problems, but the club staff had carried out physical balancing which made her now stronger following the intensity of training.
The coach revealed that young players usually need time to adapt because the speed of play and pressure at Premier League level is much different from the academy. According to him, they must increase their time with the first team to be ready to face the burden of competition.
Our opinion
In our opinion, this injury situation shows that Manchester United is still vulnerable when key players are absent. However, Amorim’s courage in appointing academy players could be the right step to build long-term squad depth, although it still poses risks in the short term.
